How Long Does it Take to Become a Pharmacist?

At first, Pharmacists need to have a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree to start for practice. what many students do is, they enter into Pharm.D. programs after having two or three years of an undergraduate degree. After completing the Pharm.D. program, students need to attend and pass two licensing examinations to practice.  The name of the examinations is the Multi-State Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE) and the North American Pharmacist Licensing Exam (NAPLEX).

Now, the question is how long does it take to become a Pharmacist. So, it actually depends on the program you choose. The Pharm.D. programs take four years to complete. But, if you complete a bachelor’s degree before starting the Pharm.D.program, it will take a total of eight years to become a Pharmacist. There again, if you enter the program after two to three years of the undergraduate degree, you can start your practice as soon as possible. There are some Pharm.D. programs that accept students directly out of high school, and then it will take approximately six years to become a Pharmacist.
